ROYAL MUSICAL COMPOSITION “KLAI
KANGWOL” “KERD PEN THAI TAI PUA THAI” “WHEN”
This song was composed specifically
to be used as the signature tune of His Majesty’s Aw.Saw.Friday
Band and was always played as the band’s final number.
The English lyrics of “When”
were composed by Mr.Raul Manglapus, an ex-Congress Member
of the Philippines. The Thai lyrics of “Klai Kangwol”
(which translates as “Far From Worry”) were composed by
Mr.Wichai Kokilakanit.
Mr.Manrat Srikaranonda commented:
“His Majesty wrote “when” at Klai
Kangwol Palace, at a time when patriotic music was popular,
encouraging a spirit of national unity. Her Majesty the
Queen then sought permission from His Majesty to have Thanpuying
Maniratana Bunnag write another version of the Thai lyrics,
“Kerd Pen Thai, Tai Pua Thai” (Which translates as “Born
Thai, Die for Thailand), “When” became the band’s finale.
When His Majesty’s audience heard this song, they would
know that the party was over, and they would start to line
up for His Majesty’s departure. Then His Majesty changed
and improvised the song, after playing the revised and unfamiliar
version, His Majesty packed away his musical instrument,
and told the audience that that was it. The audience later
caught on, and when His Majesty played only one note in
the chord of E Flat they would know that it was the final
song of the evening performance.” |
